Courageous Advocacy
Courageous Advocacy
At St John’s, we inspire children to become courageous advocates. We provide them with opportunities to be involved in decision-making, to think widely and deeply about issues around the world and encourage opportunities for children to act upon this. Through our vision and values, children are taught to love their world. In light of this, our children are empowered to understand their responsibilities in society and look after themselves and our world.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fair; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Proverbs 31:8-9

WWF Fundraising
Feeling inspired....
Following on from worship where we were collectively thinking about being courageous advocates and making a change, a group of Year 6 children were inspired to fundraise for WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature).
When asked why they had chosen the WWF to support, their response was, "We believe every animal deserves a good life, just like people."
The group researched the WWF and the dangers animals face and together to spread awareness through leaflets and posters around school. They created their own raffle to raise money for this worthy cause and used their own pocket money to buy Easter Egg prizes for the winners. In total, £145.40 was raised! A huge well done to the courageous advocates who have worked hard to make a difference.
Agents of Change
The Agents of Change group meet after school every Monday. The group is working towards the Archbishop's Young Leaders Award and are enjoying becoming courageous advocates. This year they have:
- explored what it means to be a good leader.
- met with the chair of governors.
- identified issues locally and written to the local MP
- carried out acts of kindness at home
Agents of Change are now planning:
- to attend a local care home to play games and share stories
- hold a Fair Trade café promoting global issues.
Charities that we support...
Over recent years we have carried out a range of different fundraising to support many good causes. At St John’s we believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to achieve their God-given potential and supporting charities contributes to others, all around the world, having a chance at achieving this.
