Our Foundation Stage Curriculum

Our Curriculum

Children in our Nursery and Reception Classes follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We try to make learning experiences as fun and enjoyable as possible, through providing lots of play – based learning both indoors and out.

We also provide children with daily focused activities aimed to develop understanding and skills in reading (through ‘Read, Write Inc.’) writing and mathematics.

All our activities and learning experiences are aimed to develop outgoing, independent and confident learners, by developing the following 3 characteristics as described in the ‘Development Matters’ documentation:

  • Engagement; playing and exploring
  • Motivation; active learning
  • Thinking; Creating and Thinking Critically

Through providing practical, hands-on, fun, exciting and challenging activities, we develop the following

7 areas of learning:

  • Personal Social Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

How we learn through play

In the Classroom

In the writing area, we work on making marks and learn how to write letters and sounds.

We sit and read or share a story in our reading area.

Who will you be in our role play area?

We get our hands messy in our creative area. We enjoy painting, sticking, water and sand play or making something special.

In our dough area, we can explore our senses through sound, touch and sight.

Outdoor Play

We have a fantastic outdoor area where we can learn, share and play.

We enjoy exploring our adventure playground, reading area, water play and our mud kitchen!

We love to ride around on the bikes and scooters; take our babies for a walk or build a secret den.
