Child Led - Leadership Teams
School Council & British Values Team
St John’s School is very proud of its school council which is supported by representatives from each of the junior classes and is led by Mrs D Pickering.
The School Council meets every Tuesday afternoon for half an hour to discuss forthcoming events taking place within school each half term.
Last term the children were involved with collecting money donations for Genes for Jeans, making cakes for the MacMillan Coffee Morning, helping on Parents Evening by taking parents to the different base and bag packing at Morrisons to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Worship Team & School Values Team
Our Worship Team 2019 -2020
Our Worship Team is an integral part of the life of the school and help to support our school values based on the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’. The children have an opportunity to feed into and deliver worship and give feedback to staff. They also help with charity work and are courageous advocates for our school.
Our last Family Service took place on Thursday 10th October and was very well attended by over 70 parents and children. Our theme was based on the question ‘What difference can I make?’
The worship team did an excellent job posing questions and performing poems and prayers. There was a wonderful family atmosphere as children and adults alike made bird feeders, planted pledges, make bookmarks and planted broad beans. We also tucked into tea, cake and biscuits. Donations were kindly given and monies have been used to buy food and toiletries for the Walsall North Foodbank. We are grateful for your continued support.
The Worship Team
Safety Patrol Team
A group of children have been appointed to set exemplary behaviour and attitude – they are ambassadors for the school.
Here is a snapshot of a typical morning written by one of our current Safety Patrollers:
Infants: assist them in the cloakroom as they arrive at school (help take off coats, put homework away, cheer them up if they are upset).
Juniors: make sure they get into class on time, pick up dropped coats, close the doors.
Tuck area (make sure children have the correct money/change. Assist with basic first aid if any one is hurt in the playground, help to sort out friendship problems. Stop people running in and out of the cloakrooms to prevent accidents.
Lunch time: (infants)
Help the younger children to unwrap their sandwiches, etc or cut up their dinner and help to persuade them to eat it all up , then take them outside to play.
The A* Stars programme promotes sustainable travel to and from school.
At St. John’s we are involved in a variety of initiatives which include Walk to School month, Reception Road Safety Walk, Car Seat Safety, ToGo and NoGo, Bikeability, Scootability, Sager Parking and Road Safety Awareness as well as school quizzes and assemblies.
We have pupil sheriffs who help to promote the initiatives and work with Mrs Shenton, our A* Stars Co-ordinator.
